IRS Announces Tax Relief for South Dakota Disaster Victims
WASHINGTON: The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has provided tax relief for individuals and businesses in South Dakota affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, and flooding that began on June 16, 2024.
Affected taxpayers have an extended deadline until February 3, 2025, to file various federal tax returns and make tax payments.
The relief applies to areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), ensuring those in disaster-hit regions receive support.
Specific counties eligible for relief include Aurora, Bennett, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, and several others.
The relief is not limited to current counties; additional counties may be added to the disaster area as needed.
Taxpayers in these areas are encouraged to check the IRS website regularly, as the list of eligible localities is updated on the "Tax relief in disaster situations" page.
This extension aims to ease the financial burden on individuals and businesses recovering from the disaster, giving them more time to manage their tax obligations.
The IRS's move aligns with federal efforts to provide comprehensive disaster relief and support to communities in South Dakota.
